Line Parent

Short Definition: The first higher peak on the prominence line of a given peak.

Discussion: Note that the line parent may have less prominence than the starting peak. Eg: The line parent of Mount Robson is Francs Peak, which only has a prominence of 1236m, as compared with Robson's 2829m. One other note: If the prominence line forks, we define the Line parent as the closest one, even if that line does not ultimately lead to the island parent. Eg: Mount Rainier could go to either Elbert or Logan.
Class: Core definition.
