Black Tusk from Panorama Ridge
A dramatic, extinct volcano located north of the northwest end of Garibaldi Lake. Generally a "black" tusk, but occasionally a "white" tusk in winter, this peak catches one's eye from many different angles. The peak is a remnant of a much larger volcano that has mostly eroded away. The ascent of the true peak - the north peak - requires the use of stone bollards to protect the belay. As this peak is in the process of quickly falling down, the ascentionist would be wise to choose a time when others are not on the route. The Bishop's Mitre on the northeast ridge of The Black Tusk remains unclimbed.

Name Notes: To the native people of the Sea to Sky Corridor this mountain was Nq'il'qtens Ku Skenknap, "seat of thunder", the mountain on which the legendary Thunder Bird lived. The rock was said to have been burnt black by lightning.

Insert Access / Route
1. Standard Chimney Route Class 3. None. From Taylor Meadows campground, follow main trail upwards till you get to turnoff. Then follow beaten path up the scree to the base of the final tusk. As you go around to the left (clockwise), you'll come to the base of the chimney. (2 km) (6 hours return from campground)
