Temperatures in the high 30's prompted a kayaking trip on Callaghan Lake, which at nearly 1600 m is usually cool enough to provide relief during the afternoon. In an El Nino influenced summer, however, even Callaghan Lake was warm enough to bask in during periodic breaks from paddling.

In the background, Isosceles Peak, the most prominent peak to the left, and Black Tusk form a reminder that this is the glaciated Coast Range.

Behind the photographer, a rough track winds up along a cascade, eventually leading to Cirque Lake, which provides even better views of Garibaldi Park. From Cirque Lake, one can wander alpine meadows sprinkled with tarns and take in views of the Pemberton Icecap.

Access: Access via the Callaghan FSR, about 17km from Hwy 99. A good put-in for cartop boats, canoes, kayaks, etc. is found at the end of the road. From the north end of the lake, beneath the obvious cascade, it is possible to follow a rough track that climbs to Cirque Lake above Callaghan Lake.

Technical: Pentax Spotmatic F with 135mm lens Fuji 400ASA Extra, scanned from a print using Adobe Photoshop 5.
